Imelda

I didn't like how Imelda Marcos depicted herself at all in the  documentary we watched.

This documentary prove how extravagant her life was as the first lady during Marcos' Regime.  It was mentioned that she always wanted a new dress and that she never repeated a pair of shoe.  And for all I know the money used for it was not entirely her personal money.  Another thing that I learned from the video is that Imelda Marcos thinks highly of herself because of her beauty and fame. This was evident in the part where she distributed her photos to the poor and entertained a lot of photo-ops with the people. Instead of her photos, she could have distributed something that they could actually use.

I recognize the good things she made for the betterment of the country (if accounts are true) but these outweigh the cases of human rights violations that happened during Marcos' time as president, not to mention the bad economic situation of the country.  When she denied these human rights violation cases, I was very dismayed.  Declaring martial law, in itself, violates a lot of human rights.  I cannot imagine how hard their life was during those times.  And Imelda was also a part of this.

As if the Filipino people have not learned their lesson, Imelda Marcos won as governor of Ilocos last elections. That says much about our views on Politics in this country.  I just hope she's not using the taxpayer's money to fund her luxuries in life.
